2008年6月17日、X JAPANのYOSHIKIがロサンゼルスで療養中の中、TOSHI、PATA、HEATHの3人が集まり記者会見を行なった。残念ながら、先日BARKSでもお伝えした、X JAPAN世界ツアーの延期の正式発表である。
前回お伝えした状況と大きな変化はない。が、YOSHIKIも少しずつ回復の兆しは見せており、普段の生活には支障のないレベルまで落ち着いているとい う。とはいえ、激しい動作はもってのほか。健康体であっても身体に極限の負担をかけるX JAPANのドラミングは、しばらく封印する必要があるだろう。
Q：世界ツアーはどうなる？
What’s going to happen concerning your tour?
TOSHI：現在発表している7月5日のパリ、8月2日の台北、9月13日のニューヨークのX PAN公演を全て延期することになりました。ファンに皆様にはご心配、ご迷惑をおかけし、まことに申しわけございません。
At this time we have decided to postpone our performances in Paris, Taipei and New York, though we’d already announced the dates. We are terribly sorry to all the fans that were looking forward to these shows, and for causing so much trouble.
PATA：自分も楽しみにしていたんですけど…中止ではないんで延期ということなんで、ちょっと待っていてください。私も楽しみに待っています。
I’m sorry; I was looking forward to this tour, too. Remember that ‘postponed’ doesn’t mean ‘canceled’. Please wait a little longer and continue to look forward to these concerts. I will, too.
HEATH：今はX JAPANとして一日でも早くステージに上がりたいと考えています。
I hope to perform with X JAPAN at the earliest possible date.
Q:気になるYOSHIKIの体調は？
Could you tell us about YOSHIKI’s condition?
TOSHI：以前から患っていた頚椎椎間板ヘルニアと腱鞘炎が悪化して、身体に負担のかかる行動ができずドクターストップとなり、LAで静養中です。無理 をせずに静養してほしいと思ってます。普段の生活に問題はないんですが、ドラムを叩くのは身体に負担がかかること。それは今に始まった話ではないんです が、ここは大事をとって準備をして欲しいと思います。YOSHIKIも無念さが電話の言葉の中から出ていましたが、いろんな意味で万全に準備を整えてそれ からでも遅くないと判断しました。それに備えて、準備をしていくつもりです。
He was ordered to stop the performing by his doctor due to the aggravation of his chronic injuries: a cervical disc herniation and tendonitis. He is now in recovery in Los Angeles. I hope he takes it easy. We talked about the tour on a telephone, and according to him he can do regular things all right, but his condition makes it difficult to play the drums. I could tell how sad he was on the phone. We’re acting cautiously now, and will surely to cover all the bases when we return.
Q:東京ドームの時点で既に無理していた？
Has YOSHIKI been suffering since the three Tokyo Dome shows?
TOSHI：ドクターからコンサートをやること自体危険なんだが、やるのであればコルセットをきちんとつけてするように、と言われていたんですが、久しぶ りに会うファンの皆さんに元気な姿を見せたいと、装着せずにいつもにも増して激しいプレイをしてしまった。僕らも内心心配だったんですが、X JAPANのリーダーとして、プロデューサとしても、準備段階で想像を超える労力がかかっていたので、肉体的にも精神的に大きな負担はかかっていたと思い ます。また、東京ドーム1日目にドラムに飛び込んだときに血だらけの怪我をしてしまった。そういう状態でhideのメモリアル・ライヴもあって、非常に肉 体的なダメージが大きいという状態です。
His doctor explained to him that playing the drums is very risky, and told him he should at least wear a brace, but he did not do that because he was so excited to be in front of the fans again. He also really overexerted himself beyond imagination at the first show, like when he dove into his drum set and hurt himself. We played at the hide Memorial Summit soon after those three shows, and I guess the burden was too monstrous for him to bear all at once.
Q：相当の疲れも出たということでしょうか？
He was suddenly worn out?
TOSHI:そうですね。再結成にあたって、リーダーとしていろいろな問題を抱えてきましたから。
Yes. He is a man with a strong sense of responsibility when it comes to X JAPAN.
O:世界のファンも心配しているのでは？
Fans both in Japan and all over the world are worried about you all.
TOSHI：世界中からコンサートの依頼を受けています。台湾サイトではアクセスが殺到していると聴いていますし、。ヨーロッパでもいろんなサイトでコン サートの実現を求めているとききます。僕らも、“JAPAN”と名の付くバンドですから、日本のバンドとして世界に役立てるような、世界を支えていけるよ うな活動が今後もできればいいと思っています。
I heard that many fans overseas visited our site searching for information, and they continue to hope that our world tour will happen. I would like to stay in music so that we can send our message to the world from Japan, because we are X “JAPAN”.
Q:現在、YOSHIKIの治療の様子は？
Could you tell us more about YOSHIKI’s medical treatment?
TOSHI：世界中から東洋医学、西洋医学を集め、治療に専念していると聞いています。
He is intent on healing his body using all kinds of eastern and western medicine.
Q:しばらくの間ファンの前にX JAPANが現れることはない？
The world is eager to have more X JAPAN, but you won’t appear before fans for a while.
TOSHI:いろんな意味で準備期間…今は、前進のための助走期間と今のこの時間を捉えています。X JAPANとしても完璧を期すため、万全を整えるための準備期間です。そしたら攻撃再開します。
We’re using this time as preparation for our next advance. We will proceed to “attack” as soon as we are ready.
Q：世界のファンに向けてメッセージを。
Finally, please give a message to your fans all over the world.
PATA：申し訳ないが、中止ではなくて延期なのでちょっと待っててください。
I’m extremely sorry, but again… this is just a delay. So wait just a little longer.
HEATH：今は準備も含め、X JAPANの素晴らしいステージを海外の皆さんの前で披露したいので、それまで会える日を楽しみに待っていてください。
I would like to show all of you how great X is on stage. Please look forward to our shows.
TOSHI：X JAPANとしてはいったん延期という形になりましたけど、僕らはYOSHIKIを含め、やる気は満々です。少々お待ちいただきたい。それ以外でもソロで 活動しているので、ぜひ応援していただきたいです。世界中で音楽を通して貢献をしていければいいと思いますので、ファンの皆さんにも応援していただきたい と思っています。
Though we had to postpone our X tour, all of us, including YOSHIKI, have a lot of ambitions; we also perform as solo musicians. As always, we appreciate your continuing support. We are sure to be back on stage when we’re ready, to try and use our music to make a beautiful world.
最後に、TOSHIから一言、「YOSHIKIは、7月3～6日からのフランス・パリでのジャパンエキスポに是非行きたいといっています。僕らも一緒にいけるなら行きたいと思っています」とのコメントを残した。
大いなる野望とやる気に満ち溢れたX JAPAN。だからこそ、自らの力を確実に表現するために、ベストな環境が整うまでは、必要な時間をしっかりとかけてほしい。肉体的にも精神的にも、そし て周りの環境も、綺麗に整ったとき、X JAPANはまだ見ぬ未曾有の奇跡を見せ付けるはずだ。
あせる必要はない。万全までに要する時間、それは不死鳥が背負った十字架なのだ。
